How to Make Snow Paint

Although most of us wait all summer eagerly for the snowfall, the children miss out on some exciting outdoor activities and end up getting bored at home. Facing the same dilemma last winter, I came up with the idea of adding a pop of colors to the sparkling white snow carpet in my backyard. And you would be astonished how it was accomplished using a couple of kitchen ingredients.

Your Own Homemade Snow Paint

What you need

  • Food coloring (the more shades you have, the better)
  • Spray bottles
  • Water

Making the Paint

  1. Fill each bottle with water and add the food dyes.
  2. Close the lid tightly and shake the bottles properly.

And you are done!

Now clad the little artists in their fluffy warm clothes and let them squeeze dollops of colors on the heaps of snow.

Within an hour, the snowy backyard was bursting with colors and the kiddos demanded me to refill the bottles as they were yet to finish making their favorite Olaf snowman and coloring it.

Some Cool Recipes for indoor Snow Painting

Why just color the hard-packed snow when you can make snow glitter paint in the comfort of your cozy home? All you have to do is combine equal parts of shaving cream (permission needed from hubby), and glue in a bowl till you get a thick gooey mixture. Sprinkle some sparkles on it. Leave it in the hands of the kids and enjoy watching their winter artwork.

Another way to whip out some puffy snow paint is mixing 1/2 cup of flour with the same amount of salt and water. With a brush or a sponge, you too can paint a beautiful snowy scene on the window panes or pour the paint into a spray bottle and decorate your Christmas tree, covering it in snow (not literally).

While my outdoor winter wonderland was glimmering with colors, making the white snow paint was also a delight. All through the holidays, I was glad the children enjoyed playing in the snow and honing their artistic skills as well.
