How to Make Glow in the Dark Chalks

If there is one hobby that children love, then it has to be scribbling anywhere and everywhere with colorful chalks. A big fan of glow in the dark wall decals, I came up with an idea of infusing some shine into chalks and gift them to my nephews. So I called them home and together we three began molding glowing chalks.

Making Glow in the Dark Sidewalk Chalk

Things You Will Need

• Glow in the dark paints (fluorescent paints would also do)
• Plaster of Paris
• Water
• Ice cube trays
• Bowls (3 in my case)

Instructions

1. Fill the bowls with half cup water and dissolve a pea-size amount of your preferred color of paint in it.
2. Mix the paints thoroughly until the water begins to glow.

3. Add 1 cup of plaster of Paris into each bowl and stir well until a thick, wet, and consistent mixture is obtained.

4. Pour the mixture into the ice cube tray coated with cooking spray (petroleum jelly can also be used).
5. Let it completely dry for 12 hours and then take out the chalks.

When we lined the chalks on the table and switched off the lights, we were left awestruck by the colorful effect of the glowing chunks.

You can also add old food coloring gels to the mixture, or some watercolors, along with the glow in the dark paint, before spooning it into the ice cube trays. What else could be a better way to recycle such things?
