Melted Crayon Heart Art with an Interesting Tutorial
Doing some out-of-the-box crafts has always been my fascination since childhood. Keeping in sync with the recycling trend, I happened to discover a unique form of art using melted crayons. The entire process of drawing, melting, and drying was anything, but tiresome. Let me show you how it was done.
How to Make a Melted Crayon Heart on Canvas
One thing you need to keep in mind that the project is going to get all messy. So, make sure you cover the work area (could be a table or floor) with trash bags, newspapers or even an old plastic table cloth before going ahead.
Things to Use
- Crayons- 40 to 70 (Depends on the size of the heart)
- Canvas (24×36 is perfect)
- Blow Dryer
- Hot Glue
DIY Instructions
- Draw a heart on the canvas or simply trace it with a paper heart cutout.

- Gather the crayons and begin arranging them around the heart maintaining some space in between. (I completed off with 40 crayons)

- Use the hot glue to stick each crayon to the canvas without disturbing the arrangement and let it dry.
- Set the hair dryer to high heat and blow the air on the crayons beginning from the middle section and gradually moving towards the tip till the wax starts to melt and drip. Try melting them from different angles to get varied splatters on the canvas.

You also need to blow dry the dripping wax for spreading across the canvas till the edges. I moved the crayons closer for reducing the gaps.
Approximately, it’s going to take about an hour as the heat generated by the dryer is going to take some time to melt the crayons. For this reason, many prefer a heat gun to cut down the melting time and also for uniform dripping.
Nevertheless, the hard work paid off, and my melted crayon rainbow heart was ready for display on the living room wall.

Other Fabulous Ways to Create Melted Crayon Hearts
You can save some time and crayons by drawing a half heart at one corner of the canvas and arrange the crayon sticks in a similar manner along the outline followed by blow drying. Write a beautiful quote or a special message to fill up the white space. Voila!

If you are one of those moms having a hard time parting away from broken crayons (expensive too) as your kids no longer want to use them, then your worries have come to an end. All you got to do is fill an oven-safe heart-shaped baking mold with the broken pieces of crayons and bake it at 250°F for 15 to 20 minutes until the wax completely melts. Once the melted crayons have cooled and hardened, remove the dainty hearts from the molds. How about making a necklace out of them?

Another fabulous melted crayon art made with a couple of crayons rather than the complete set. Start with making crayon shavings (2 to 4 crayons can be used and mixed) using a sharp sharpener and spread them over one side of a piece of wax paper. Now fold the other side of the paper over the crayon flakes and place them on your ironing board covered with a towel. After setting the iron on medium heat, cover the wax paper with another towel or cloth and iron it till the wax fully melts and spreads out. Keep the paper aside for cooling and cut out a heart. Doesn’t the garland of hearts make your heart aflutter?
